Where We Stand

June 8, 2020

We at the Policy & Data Science (PODS) Program are outraged at the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Regis Korchinski-Paquet, and countless others who have lost their lives due to police abuse of power. We express our solidarity with protestors fighting for the liberation of the oppressed, and against the racism, systemic discrimination, and police brutality that exist in Quebec, Canada, and across the world.

The lack of comprehensive data on excessive use of force by police in the US, Canada, and other countries is just one of the many injustices surrounding these events.

PODS is compiling a list of resources on data, justice, and police brutality. The page will be regularly updated.

We encourage you to read the statement written by the Black Students' Network of McGill.

For ways to help, please see the links and resources compiled by Black Lives Matter Canada and Black Lives Matter. Consider signing this petition demanding racial data on police-involved deaths in Canada be made available to the public.
