PODS 2018 Showcase Event

Congratulations to the first cohort of Policy & Data Science Fellows on completing their summer program!

On April 23rd, we celebrated the success of the inaugural Policy & Data Science Summer Program, especially the seven hard-working and impressive cohort of fellows. This Showcase & Closing Event was generously hosted by our lead sponsor, BDC Capital. The Showcase was MC’ed by Derek Ruths, Director of the Centre for Social & Cultural Data Science (CSCDS) and Nicholas King, Director of the Policy & Data Science Summer Program, who spoke about the creation of this cutting-edge program.

We were very lucky to hear from both Thomas Park, Vice President of Operations & Strategy, and Jérôme Nycz, Executive Vice President of BDC Capital, who welcomed everyone to the event and affirmed the importance of training a new generation of data-driven policy analysts. BDC Capital has been a tremendously supportive Lead Sponsor and terrific host for the closing event.

Chris Ragan, the Director of the Max Bell School of Public Policy and chair of Canada's Ecofiscal Commission, spoke about how the school plans to integrate the PODS model into their program, based on the clear success of the summer. We are exceedingly grateful for our partnership with the Max Bell School and their immense support for this initiative.

Each of the seven fellows had the opportunity to present their background, internship project, and final project to the audience. From cannabis legalization to white nationalism tweets to climate change refugee policy, they impressed everyone with their determination, enthusiasm, and insight. We are so proud of all that they have accomplished this summer!

Thank you to everyone who attended the event and all those who support PODS, including our sponsors BCF Avocats and the McGill Faculty of Science! Special thank you to BDC Capital for hosting the event, and Julien-Leblanc for the delicious catering.

The full album will be posted on the CSCDS Facebook soon. Follow the PODS Twitter and the Max Bell Twitter and Facebook for more updates.
